Low Water Immersion Dyeing- Multi layer
These fabrics were dyed using the Multi-Layer technique, also known as a parfait. I place Fat Quarter cuts of fabric into a tall (2lb) deli container. I place once piece in at a time and then pour soda ash and/or dye onto each fabric. You can use a different Hue or Shade for each layer. Since each fabric has a little of the other dyes in it, this technique results on three fabrics that coordinate with each other. You can also pour dye on only the first layer and then soda ash only for the following layers. This creates a 3 part Value Gradation. These fabrics were created in a fabric dyeing class I taught, by my students and myself.
